The Wakefield Second Shepherds’ Play

A 14th century Christmas pageant, written by the man known only as "The Wakefield Master."  This play was written at a time when plays as we know them today were just emerging from within the Church and becoming secular. Thus, while the climax of the story is a beautiful, traditional rendering of the birth of Jesus, the beginning of the play features a comic plot involving a stolen sheep disguised as a human infant, a sneak thief and his wife, and three individual shepherds, each with their own life conflicts. An entertaining recounting of a classic story, complete with both original and classic holiday music.
