Carl Wawrina
Before playing Cadmus in Euripides' "The Bacchae" (May, 2008), Carl appeared in two other plays in San Juan Capistrano, under the direction of Trina Klossing. In February 2008, Carl portrayed the Stage Manager in Thornton Wilder's classic, "Our Town" to sold-out houses at the Camino Real Playhouse. He also served as the production’s dialect coach, training the cast on how to deliver their lines with a New England accent.
This was immediately followed by his role as Dr. Alfred Feldman in Tom Kempinski's two-person drama, "Duet for One," at The Orange Curtain Theater. Eric Marchese, theater critic for the Orange County Register, wrote:
"Orange Curtain delivers two superb performances, with the main one a clear portrait of loss... Carl Wawrina is superb as the German shrink who zeroes in on his patient's words, scribbling notes, then questioning and probing."
Carl made his debut with the Long Beach Shakespeare Company in March 2007 as Lord Hastings in Richard III. Next he performed as Friar Laurence in “Romeo and Juliet,” and as Dromio of Ephesus in “The Comedy of Errors,” in the Long Beach Shakespeare Festival of 2007. He also played Lt. Dundy in Helen Borgers' excellent adaptation of Dashiell Hammett’s “The Maltese Falcon” in fall, 2007.
In prior years, Carl appeared in many Orange County productions, including lead roles in Patrick Hamilton’s "Rope" (original version), N.J. Crisp’s "Dangerous Obsession" and P.G. Wodehouse’s adaptation of Ferenc Molnar’s "The Play's the Thing" (all directed by Trina Klossing). Carl also appeared in "Auntie Mame" (directed by Allison Bibicoff), and "You Can't Take It With You" (Avis Rueweller, director). Other credits include: “Mister Roberts” (Gigi Fusco-Meese, director), “The Uninvited” and “Communicating Doors” (both directed by Susan Marx).
Carl studied acting at the South Coast Repertory, and voice over and characterization with industry pros Lori Tritel and Michael Bell. He is also "collects accents" and has so far performed onstage using New England, British and German accents, respectively. Carl is seeking representation and can be reached via email at mrdob@verizon.net.
